Laser Doppler Perfusion Monitoring and Imaging especially

A laser Doppler perfusion imager functions by projecting a visible-to- infrared laser beam onto the surface of a tissue. The purpose of the study is using a laser Doppler imaging device (Easy-LDI) as an additional tool to assess perfusion. In this method, the changes in the frequency of the laser ligth provide information regarding perfusion of the monitored tissue. The method most used to determine burn depth is clinical assessment, which is the least expensive, but not the most accurate.Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is a technique with which a more accurate (>95%) estimate of burn depth can be made by measuring the dermal perfusion. Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring measures the total local microcirculatory blood perfusion including the perfusion in capillaries (nutritive flow), arterioles, venules and shunting vessels. The definition of perfusion is the concentration of red blood cells times their average velocity.

It is directed in a scanning fashion of the tissue within the ROI (region of interest) by a moving mirror. Backscattered light is captured by the detector. Reflections from moving objects (such as erythrocytes) are subject to the Doppler shift.

They can be be used for one, two, or three components of velocity measurements.

The techniques are based on the phenomenon that monochromatic light transilluminating a perfused tissue is spectrally broadened owing to scattering by moving blood cells. In this study, methodological aspects of the two methods are presented. Laser Doppler imaging might therefore be used to assess a burn wound without removal of such a dressing. This would have implications for the selection and use of dressings in the treatment of burn patients, especially in an ambulatory care setting.

The purpose of the study is using a laser Doppler imaging device (Easy-LDI) as an additional tool to assess perfusion. In this method, the changes in the frequency of the laser ligth provide information regarding perfusion of the monitored tissue. Laser Doppler imaging ( LDI) can be used to measure superficial blood flow in the skin and other vascularized tissues. A laser Doppler perfusion imager functions by projecting a visible-to- infrared laser beam onto the surface of a tissue. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is a method used to assess blood flow in microvascular systems. Attempts are being made to adapt this technology to assess pulpal blood flow. A diode is used to project an infrared light beam through the crown and pulp chamber of a tooth.

Unlike conventional infrared thermography, laser Doppler gives a direct measure of dermal microvascular flow. A comparison between laser‐doppler imaging and colorimetry in the assessment of scarring: “a pilot study” The choroid is a highly vascularized tissue supplying the retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptors. Its implication in retinal diseases is gaining increasing interest. However, investigating the anatomy and flow of the choroid remains challenging. Here we show that laser Doppler holography provides high-contrast imaging of choroidal vessels in humans, with a spatial resolution comparable Continuous microcirculation monitoring of the right foot was carried out for the first time in a 62-year-old patient with cryoglobulinaemia prior to, during and after manual needle insertion at Jic Xi(St.41) acupuncture point using a new method of laser Doppler perfusion imaging (PIMII, Lisca AB, Linkoping, Sweden).
